Gas Cards

Credit Cards

Credit cards are little plastic cards that contain a certain amount of money that its user can choose to swipe when making purchases or paying for services. These credit cards can also be used in a regular ATM and actual cash can be withdrawn from it.

Credit cards are very popular and most credit card companies have come up with different types of cards to meet their users’ different needs. To reward frequent spenders, there is what they call a cash back card where a certain percentage of their purchases are returned. For those who have automobiles, gas cards were designed for you.

Gas Cards

Gas cards work just like a regular credit card and a cash back credit card does. Gas cards give its users a certain percentage of rebates on their gas purchases with certain gasoline stations they have partnerships with. With the current economy and the prices of gasoline continuously increasing, gas cards seem like the way to go.

Gas cards are not just for gas, they can be used for paying for grocery items, paying for online items, and for paying for services like a massage or a tire change. These cards work just the same as any regular credit card, except that the credit card company gives special rebates if it is used for the purchase of gas, hence its name.

What You Should Know

Some gas cards have certain policies that every user should know before getting and using the card. For instance, some credit card companies do not automatically apply the rebates on the gas purchases charged to the card and you’d have to request for it. So if you’re the forgetful type of person, this small fact could end up you losing all of your rebates just because you forgot to request for it to be applied.

Some credit card companies also have terms and conditions wherein rebates for gas purchases have to be requested within a certain period time, like six (6) months or so. If this isn’t done, the gas rebates are automatically forfeited. Also, don’t forget to make sure that you’re charging gas purchases on gas cards through the affiliated gasoline station. Your gas purchases might all be in vain if they were made at a non – affiliated gasoline station.

Also, some gas cards from certain credit card companies may offer a 5% rebate, for example, only for a certain period of time. For example, the 5% rebate may only be for the first 3 or 6 months that you have the card, and then it drops to 2% or less thereafter.

Like any other credit card, gas cards are useful and a great way to get something back from your gas purchases, but only if used wisely. Gas cards can be a great way to get the most out of your regular gasoline purchases, but if you don’t settle your bills on time, expect to be laid with a heavy interest rate. Charging gas purchases to gas cards just to save a few dollars and then ending up with high interest rates doesn’t seem right, don’t you think?
