Card identification Code (CIC), card verification code (CVC), card security code (CSC), card code verification (CCV) or card verification value (CVV or CV2) – all of four terms represents the only thing i.e. credit card security. Card security code is used by the merchants to confirm actual cardholder is making a purchase and it is not a credit card fraud. Merchant and frequent online credit card buyers know what this is and how to use it but if you are a newbie or have not made any online shopping yet. You may be a little confused to understand the card verification code.
The card verification code or card security code of your credit card depends on credit card issuers and it may be vary. Usually it is a number of 3 digits marked on the credit card. To view card verification code in Visa, MasterCard and Discover cards turn your credit card. There you will see a number series made by using 19, 7 or 3 digits. The last 3 digits of the series is known as card security code like example if it is a 19 digits number, first 16 digits are your credit card number and the remaining three digits are security code. In case there is seven digit’s number, first four is your card number and rest of digits is your card security code. Similarly if there are only three digits, it is card security code.
If you are using American Express credit cards, you will see it on the front side of the card. There you see an embossed 16-digit card number with a four digit’s number (that is not embossed on the card). This particular number (non-embossed) having four digits is the card security code. That’s the simple method to see your credit card verification code.
Furthermore if you can’t know the verification code due to any reasons, you can call customer service centre to get details on the code. Their executive will instruct you on how to know your card’s security code so call them. Eventually you can drop a mail to their consumer care email to receive guidelines for clear understanding.
